Pre and After Care and Lash tips for Newbies

As you know by now from us becoming reacquainted or if you are already one of my lash clients, I have been a certified Lash Technician since 2018. Lash Extensions have become quite a big deal and the demand just seems to be growing. The busier I get, the more questions I'm being asked about what to expect from Lash Newbies and how to care for your new extensions. This post should shed some light on what to expect and how to care for what will become your newest obsession.

Arriving at your appointment without eye makeup is essential. This will reduce the amount of cleansing time, and help with the initial process of creating your beautiful set of extensions. Once you have filled out your form, we can discuss what style of lash extension will most compliment your facial features and your lifestyle, as well as how to maximize the potential life of your new lash set.

Being a newbie to lash extensions,  you might feel like your eyelashes ae falling out more than before you came for your appointment, but it's just that you're noticing your lashes falling out more than before because they now have a thick, dark lash extension attached to it. Your lashes will still follow their normal lash cycle, even with extensions on.

After you leave my Lash Studio with your new lash set and are feeling like a Queen, here are a few important things to remember:

Don't get them wet for the first 24 hours. Why? The adhesive that we used to hold the extension in place takes a while to fully cure and any sweat, water or liquids can potentially mess with this process. Make sure you plan your day a head of time and wash your hair and face before your lash appointment.

There are rumors floating around that you can't wear makeup or wash your face while wearing eyelash extensions.  Don't believe them, except the big one! Going about your normal daily beauty routine is totally fine as long as the products you are going to use are oil free. Oily products can break down the bond of the adhesive, in turn, shorten the life span of your extensions. Now, here is the big one... Don't wear mascara! Mascara is hard to remove and most makeup removers tough enough to remove mascara contain oil. Plus, putting mascara on your lash extensions, a new set or a fill, will tug, twist and possibly turn your extensions.

Brush your lashes daily! With each appointment,  I'll give you a mascara wand or spoolie. Keep this spoolie and use it to brush your lashes every single day, even twice a day. Brushing your lashes will not only keep them looking fluffy, but it keeps them tangle free. Having tangled lashes not only looks bad, but it can cause premature shedding.

Prepare to be addicted! Even if you just got lash extensions for a wedding or special occasion,  you'll never look back. The ease and the "I woke up like this" feeling that comes with lash extensions can't be beat.
