Know What Suits Your Age

Spring is fastly approaching and it's time to start your spring cleaning, rummaging through the old and start planning out a new wardrobe. Here are a few little tips, tricks and notes on what to wear, when to follow the rules and when to break them.

A woman in her 20's never wants to look matronly; beware of the nude nylons or pants with pleats. A Mom in her 40's should be weary of looking like she raided her teenage daughters closet. She should cover her midriff and nix the rips on the jeans. Mini skirts are off the table after a certain age and if you're 50 or beyond, watch the sleeveless tops and you should pass on the plunging necklines.

On the up side to knowing what suits your age, it comes down to personal transformation. As you age your body changes, fact, but so does your taste, your budget and your lifestyle. Dressing your age is really about making sure your clothes reflect who you are now and upping the quality of your threads year by year.

If you are in your 20's:
Rules schmules...You've got permission to experiment. Be playful as almost anything goes when you`re in your 20`s. From pretty, girly dresses to edgier ensembles. Take chances and try unexpected parings and silhouettes. You will probably luck into a great look or a new shape for you. Show some leg. The time will pass when you can wear challenging or trendy lengths.
Layer on the bangles, the long necklaces, the bijoux from various bygone eras.

If you are in your 30's:
You can wear anything... with sophistication. Up the quality. As your tastes inch upward, start investing in things like a smart black coat or an amazing day-to-night blazer. Get more serious about the fit of what you are putting on. Since you can still wear just about anything, mix it up! Don't forget to bring a few wild cards into the dressing room with you now and then.
Embrace your sexiness. You're in your 30's and suddenly, you have the confidence and authority to undo that next button or pull off a pencil skirt.

If you are in your 40's:
Confidence becomes you... all you need is a little editing. You must invest. Buy a few standout items like a designer suit or an incredible evening coat that you'll wear in the years to come. Nix the frills, steer clear of fussy ruffles, girly prints and shapeless suits. Don't forget to keep your edge and combine a few currently cool pieces that work with the more classic pieces and styles.

If you are in your 50's:
Dress to impress, but learn to camouflage.
Add your own accents. Splurge on statement pieces. A chunky necklace or a signature cuff has more impact than a sedated string of pearls or tennis bracelet.
Want more impact? Dress for it by choosing a monochromatic outfit as they look ageless. Keep your casual look current with coordinated pieces in fabrics.

If you are in your 60's:
Elegance becomes you. Feel free to splurge cause you deserve it.
Look for modern cuts when you are in the dressing room as you will still want to look in-the-moment.
Remember to cover up when you have to and for evenings out, a chic wrap will be your best friend.
