De-Pill Your Favorite Sweaters

I've got two words for you ladies: sweater weather! For those of you who are true fashion diehards, this is the most wonderful and coziest time of the year. Breaking out your staple cashmere cardigan or a chunky cable knit sweater that carries you through the season is pure outfit bliss.

But, the more you wear your favorite sweater, even a well-made expensive one, the more you are at risk for the lamest fashion problem ever... pilling! Stop pulling the wool over your eyes and do something about it. Here are some tips on how to keep your favorite knits ready to wear!

Pilling occurs when small groups of the materials fibers break, get tangle and then mat together making the texture of the sweater rough and knobby. You can help to prevent pilling from happening too much by following the care instructions on your sweater or washing the garment inside out in cold water and on a gentle spin cycle as well as brushing the sweater regularly with a lint brush, I carry a travel size one in my purse.
But, if pills do start to appear, try one of these tips to remove them.

You can remove the little balls one by one using a small pair of sewing scissors or a razor blade, but ugh, talk about time consuming! The best trick I have come across yet is to buy a drugstore package of velcro hair rollers, say like $8. Lay your sweater on a flat surface, pull the fabric tight and roll the roller over the pills to make them disappear. You'll have to stop to clean the roller every so often but this shouldn't take more than five minutes! You can also swing by your closest fabric store and pick up a sweater comb or electric fabric shaver. Try dragging it across the sweater to remove the pills. Plus, the electric shaver can also be used on your favorite cozy blankets at home! Xx
